Community Singing

Community Singing

I discovered community singing on the West Coast while living in Eugene, OR and being choir director at Unity of the Valley spiritual center.  I was also part of the music team and sang with other amazingly creative musicians to reach out to our congregants and give them a heart centered experience!

I had heard about the music of Laurence Cole, and a friend, Karly Loveling was doing weekends “on the land” with other singers, learning amazing simple, acapella songs with innovative, interactive harmony parts.  It all seemed so wonderful!  My longtime singing partner, Marie Garry,  was getting quite involved with it, and did trainings to become a song leader, as well as attending gatherings in her region in the midwest.  I joined her for one, and was entranced.  She has been actively writing songs and has inspired the songwriter in me to come back a bit.  I started by writing parts to her songs and we recently recorded several that I have here.  Since I have moved back to Boulder, where I lived in my 30’s and was actively practicing, creating, and performing music with my friends, I have come into my passion which is to write and lead songs of upliftment, connection, with interesting harmonies, in order to counter-balance the negativity, disillusionment, and suffering around us and in the world at this time. These songs are sung in a group with no lyrics, no instruments, just ourselves, our voices, our hearts!

If you need an uplift, have a hankering for community, want to be a part of my upcoming HigherOctaveWellbeing Zoom/in-person song circles/retreats, please click on “Events” and come to the next one!  I can confidently say you’ll be glad you did!

Here are some samples of songs we sing in a circle.

Here they are recorded by several voices, but are meant to be shared by many voices!
